What a success the Beyond Myself Exhibition has been! We’ve had a number of fantastic events, all of which have been made possible by our wonderful supporters. Special thanks to our venue sponsor The Hive Spring, media sponsor Hong Kong Free Press and drinks sponsor Valdivia Wines.
Read on below to find out the highlights of each event.
APRIL 26: OPENING NIGHT
We were overwhelmed by the response of our supporters who joined us as we kicked off the exhibition. Thank you to everyone who came, and who gave us very positive and thoughtful feedback on the exhibit. Big thanks to Joseph Tadeo who set the mood for the night with some live jazz!
The event was opened by our Executive Director, Lucinda Pike, followed by a message from the Philippine Consul General, Hon. Antonio Morales, who gave our guests a warm welcome and called on them to continue supporting Enrich’s work.
We also heard from the Beyond Myself team, Dr. Mark Johnson (Goldsmiths, University of London), Prof. Maggy Lee (University of Hong Kong) and Lenlen Mesina (Enrich Sr. Advisor).
One of the highlights of the night was a beautiful poem, written by domestic worker artist collective, Guhit Kulay, and read by GK member Cecil Eduarte on behalf of the group.
APRIL 29: RECEPTION FOR THE DOMESTIC WORKER COMMUNITY
We were pleased to see so many new faces at our reception – many of our Enrich participants brought friends who were inspired by the exhibition to sign up for Enrich’s workshops on the spot!
We heard from the Beyond Myself team, followed by an emotional sharing from four members of Guhit Kulay, as well as from Joan Pabona, domestic worker and National Geographic awardee whose work is also displayed in the exhibition.
MAY 2: PANEL TALK + SCREENING OF ‘THE HELPER DOCUMENTARY’
We had a full house at our screening of The Helper Documentary which included a panel talk on the use of artistic expression in telling domestic workers’ stories. Thank you to our panelists Joanna Bowers (Director of The Helper Documentary), Cristina Cayat (Guhit Kulay artist) and Tynna Mendoza (Sr. Programme Manager, Enrich). Special thanks to panel moderator, Tom Grundy from Hong Kong Free Press HKFP and The Hive Spring for hosting! If you missed it, you can still catch up on the panel talk, which was live-streamed by Hong Kong Free Press on Facebook.
The Beyond Myself Exhibition Feat. Migrant Domestic Worker Artists is on display the Hive Spring from April 26- May 14, Mon-Fri, 9am-7pm. There will be a special weekend viewing on Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13, 10am-6pm.
