From the 23rd – 27th March 2015, join individual supporters, groups and corporate teams to raise money for Enrich by taking part in our ‘Balance on a Shoestring’ challenge. For five days you will live on the salary and food allowance of a migrant domestic worker living in Hong Kong. You will have to balance a budget of just HK $83 (US $10) a day (which represents the amount of money the average migrant woman lives on after sending 50% of her salary home every month) and each day you will receive a budget challenge or predicament based on real life examples of migrant women. The challenge will really test your resilience at balancing a budget whilst also giving an insight into just how financially vulnerable migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong are.
There are 320,000 migrant women working in Hong Kong and on average they send half of their salary home every month. They do this in order to feed, educate, clothe and house their family members back home. This challenge will demonstrate just how difficult it is for migrant women to balance the needs of family at home and take care of themselves whilst trying to plan, save and prepare for their future.
All funds raised from the challenge will go directly to support Enrich’s Economic Empowerment Programme – providing migrant women with vital life skills and tools which enable them to end the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.
You can fundraise as an individual or join together as a team and compete with other challenge participants. To register your interest, email firstname.lastname@example.org for your Balance on a Shoestring challenge pack.
